FUMIYA MUKOYAMA

Fumiya Mukoyama

Influenced by my father, I became interested in crafts from an early age. Since I had relatives who made Zeze ware, I naturally went into pottery. Later, I discovered pattern work and moved to Mashiko to pursue it.
I use a Western-style sewing tool called a roulette to create continuous dot patterns, which is one of the decorative methods. I enjoy using a variety of tools freely and coming up with new designs.
The kiln where I trained specialized in tea ceramics, so I also make tea caddies (chaire), tea bowls (chawan), and water jars (mizusashi) for use in the Japanese tea ceremony.
